Conclusion
Look I am no expert. I am not a film historian, and I don’t claim to have some extensive knowledge of classical genres. Noir itself is a headache of a genre to wrap ones head around, with sub genres like Neo-noir branching off and gaining popularity in the 70’s.
Noir is a constant evolving and changing genre. While some have argued it has set motifs, others claim the genre is more fluid in regards to classification. In the eyes of some The Big Lebowski merely borrows elements of these films, while some classify it as one of the best noirs ever made
What is certain though is it is a classic in its own right, with memorable characters and some of the most genuinely hilarious lines of dialogue ever put to screen. So whether it be a satirical noiresque film or a goofy smoker flick, it’s worth a checking out.
